April 8- Race Committee Workshop

Bob and Star Mauloff are bringing in Mr. Tom Downing to do a comprehensive Race Committee Workshop. This will be an incredibly valuable 8 hour clinic. Why should you commit to this? 1. You will be a MUCH better racer if you know and understand the rules. 2. The club needs to maintain its ability to host competitive racing, and that requires trained people. People like you. There will be a member/ non member fee for materials. Tom’s bio is:

Certified US Sailing Judge since 1990 (Retired), Past commodore of S.A.I.L. and Denver YC, Chairman of the S.A.I.L. Appeals Committee, S.A.I.L. RC Chairman, S.A.I.L. PHRF Chairman, Awarded the DSA Wilkerson Trophy in 1988, Sailing Instructor at Cherry Creek and Offshore Sailing Instructor at Shelter Island Marina, San Diego

Regattas/Experience

Sailing & racing since 1964, Tom has sailed, raced and officiated in several classes, in many lake and ocean regattas.

Boat types included M Scow, E Scow, Omega, O’Day 23, Catalinas 22, 25, 30, 36 and 40, Capri 25 & 26, C&C 28 & 50, OD30, Beneteau 38 & 42, J22, J24, J30, J80, Dufour 44, French Mirage, Melges 24 plus several other classes.

Highlights as skipper, were 10 years racing in NOOD Regattas in San Diego & Annapolis, 11 years with Capri 25 at the Denver Yacht Club, and 11 years on an Ultimate 20, at the DSA

PRO/PC for National Class Regattas: Holder 20, Santana 20, J22, J24, Snipes, U20, S7.9, Ensigns

 

April 22- Maintenance Seminar

Greg Moerer is teaming up with a local expert Mark LaMair on the art of sailboat maintenance. How is that cutlass bearing? Changed the oil lately? Also, Paul Nahon will be there to discuss rig tuning and will be available to walk the docks and check yours out.
