Happy Juuulllllyyyy! Can you believe we are half way thru the season? I know we had a ton of fun dropping the hook and watching the fireworks. One of the things I have been seeing a lot of lately is the young adult kids returning. Some are hanging for the weekend and some are buying boats. I know I had fun with my adult daughter when she came down and look forward to seeing her again in August.

So what’s up? Lots of stories from the road…..

The Junior Olympic Festival was a huge success! I have to give credit to Kansas Sailing Association and Perry Yacht Club for throwing an awesome event. They have brought competitive youth sailing to the region for the first time! They (we) look forward to doing it again among the local lakes, Stockton included. The event attracted top athletes from all over the Midwest! And be sure to congratulate our own Eric Nelson for taking 5th place of 15 in the top fleet. We put a 10 year old on a 420 with the top sailing teenagers in the Midwest and he and his partner (from Cheney) did GREAT!

Speaking of traveling down the (thunder) road to other regattas- looks like the Dillon, CO Open is about to see some serious heat from our own Mike Spurgeon (Hoof Hearted) and Flip Cooper (Sweet Baby J) in August! Anyone besides Gary Morrow (The Boss) headed to PYC for their Commodore’s Cup over Labor Day? I encourage you to go, they are great folks up there!

Notable upcoming events: This coming weekend is the Light the Lake music festival in Stockton City Park (not an official city event as I had said- my mistake) and thank you to all who bought raffle tickets in the club’s name to win that boat!

July 28th is the Moonlight Madness Cruiser’s Race Hope to see you out there for that one, and for breakfast the next morning. There will be a full moon and I am sending in the wind order early!

Over and out from Clearwater Lake, Minnesota

B-arr-y Nelson, your road- weary Commodore who escaped the heat for a bit

(Thanks to Stockton (and Joe) for the fun fireworks)
(Nothing better than a swim in Stockton’s clear water to cool off, dont’cha think?)
(Thank you for being a member, an interested party, and/ or sponsor of the club! We appreciate you!)
(SPONSORS! GO SEE THE SPONSORS! GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS!!)
(Was that too loud, too bold? So sorry. But they laid down big bucks and so should you)
(Anyone going to Kenny Chesney at Arrowhead this weekend?)
(Stay cool!)
